CATAGORIES:JazzA jazz routine incorporates stylized dance movements and combinations, formation changes, group work, leaps and turns. Emphasis is placed on proper technical execution, extension, control, body placement and team uniformity.
PomPoms must be used 80% of the routine. Important characteristics of a pom routine include synchronization and visual effect, clean and precise motions, strong pom technique, and incorporate dance technical elements.
Hip HopRoutines emphasize the street style movements with an emphasis on execution, style, creativity, body isolations and control, rhythm, uniformity and musical interpretation. Teams may also put an additional focus on athletic incorporations such as jumps, jump variations, combo jumps and other tricks. Gymnastic and acrobatic skills are permitted.
TapRoutine must contain tap technique and primarily tap work. It is preferred tap sounds not be on tape. No gymnastic/acrobatic tricks allowed.
BalletRoutine must consist of ballet technique. Must include classical steps and movements. No pointe shoes allowed. No gymnastic/acrobatic tricks allowed.
PointeRoutine must consist of pointe/toe technique. No gymnastic/acrobatic tricks allowed.
Lyrical Jazz/ModernRoutine should demonstrate balance, extension, isolations and control utilizing the lyrics or mood of the music. No gymnastic/acrobatic tricks allowed.
CloggingA routine utilizing either traditional or contemporary style clogging technique. No gymnastic/acrobatic tricks allowed. Character/Musical Theater Routine A routine portraying a recognizable character throughout. Can be from a play, movie, television, Broadway, or a stereotype such as a farmer, policeman, etc. The character portrayed must be listed on the entry form. Can incorporate either dance or acrobatic techniques.
Dance Team Guidelines:
- Suggested time is 2 minutes and 30 seconds. No penalty for being over time. But it does help to keep the event on time to stay close to this time limit.
- Teams must have a minimum of 4 members. Otherwise team must register as an individual, duo or Trio.
- Dance Team Divisions are determined by the average AGE of the members on the team.
- Jewelry is allowed in the Dance Team divisions only.
- Wearable props may be used in all Dance Team divisions.
- Dance shoes are recommended but not required, wearing socks only is not allowed.
- All Costuming should be age appropriate and favorable to family viewing.
Dance Individual Best Guidelines:
- Suggested time is 2 minutes and 30 seconds.
- Must follow all Dance team requirements.
Dance Duo and Trio Best Guidelines:
- Suggested time is 2 minutes and 30 seconds.
- Must follow all Dance team requirements.
